Champagne Veuve Fourny

Decanter Reviews

Veuve Fourny & Fils, Brut 2008

From a specialist in Vertus Chardonnays, this is worth keeping for five years. Real depth and definition, a tens mouthfeel but burgeoining flavours of spiced lemon and agrumes.

A very personal Champagne tour
For restaurateur and Best Sommelier in the World Gerard Basset OBE MW MS, nothing beats Champagne when it comes to celebrating a special occasion. He tells Tina Gellie why it holds such an important place in his heart, and recommends wines from 16 of his favourite houses.

This wine is one of 16 he has specially chosen for Decanter as his favourites under various Champagnes styles. For blanc de blancs, he chose the Les Chétillons from Pierre Péters, as well as non-vintage wines from Ruinart, Agrapart & Fils, Gosset and Veuve Fourny…

  • 17,75/20 – Blanc de Blancs – Premier Cru :
This cuvée is a great introduction to this small family house that specialises in Chardonnay. This wine offers richness but also finesse with subtle, white floral notes. It spent three years on its lees and was bottled with very low dosage. Very vinous with a nice mouthfeel. Great price!

  • – Veuve Fourny & Fils 2007 :
Well-integrated orchard and stone fruit as well as citrus notes. The palate has a nice weight with roundness and freshness on the palate.
