The bottles …
of Veuve Fourny champagnes

Champagne bottles have their own technical characteristics due to the sparkling wine contained inside. Therefore, they are thicker and more resistant than normal wine bottles in order to withstand thermal shocks of 42°C (73°F) and a maximum pressure of 13 bars (1 bar = 1 kg per cm² = 15 psi). The punt of the bottle is also very deep for the same reason.

At Veuve Fourny, we sell our range of champagnes in 3 volumes :

  • The half bottle, 37.5 centilitres, to share between two for a special moment, or when you are feeling down and need a pick-me-up!! Their sales are increasing regularly.

  • The bottle, 0.75 l, the most commonly sold.

  • The magnum, 1.5 l, generally drunk and appreciated for important events, it is a must for parties and large tables. But the magnum has another advantage: it keeps and ages wine longer than in bottles. This can be explained because the exchange of air through the cork is half as much as in a bottle compared to the volume of wine.

All our bottles are green, oak-leaf green. Used in the past, the white bottles have disappeared in Veuve Fourny for two reasons: they do not protect the wine from UVs, and they are less easy to recycle.

Moreover, with the increasing importance of sustainable development, a new evolution has just appeared in Veuve Fourny. We have decided to use “light bottles”. Don’t worry, it does not change in any way the volume and quality of the bottle. A normal empty champagne bottle weighs 900 grams, a light bottle weighs 835 grams. The difference of 65 grams represents a saving in weight of 7%.

This means for us about ten tons less used each year, without counting the saving on transport costs.

This new product, tested over the last 5 years, is as resistant as the former bottles and actively contributes to protecting our environment.
